Cheikh Barry

Where are you based?
Long Island, NY.

How long have you been with the company?
I have been working with Radial for a little over one year. December 14, 2021 was my one-year anniversary.

How has your career grown since starting at Radial?
My career has grown alongside the rapid growth of the supply chain industry and fast-paced moving environment at Radial. I’m constantly learning and helping develop new technology to support this evolution, particularly within the transportation management system (TMS) and shipping systems.

Are there any notable mentors or peers you feel have contributed to your growth/ success?
Yes, my teammates within the TMS group and particularly my manager, Dan Smith, have helped me with onboarding and understanding Radial’s processes and practices. Additionally, my peers from cross-functional teams have helped me grow and acclimate to the fast-paced nature of Radial.

What does your day-to-day look like? What are the main responsibilities of your role?
I am part of the TMS leadership team and engage in the IT development, set-up and configuration, delivery, and support of TMS shipping solutions on a daily basis. We use BluJay Parcel and Radial’s shipping solutions, supporting our fulfillment and supply chain services business units.

Most days I am also working with the order management, warehouse management and the business analyst teams supporting client onboarding projects in supply chain services. We work with multi-carrier parcel and less-than-truckload shipping systems, global carriers and service levels offered by UPS, FedEx, DHL, as well domestic postal systems like USPS.

What motivates you to wake up and go to work?
I’m passionate about problem-solving and delivering projects on time. I enjoy developing new IT solutions that make shipping more efficient and solving issues for customers to make them smile.

What is your favorite part of your job/ what do you like most about working at Radial?
My favorite part of working at Radial is the collaboration and cross-team integration. Rather than sending an email, I like to be on a call/meeting for everyone to come together, brainstorm and discuss a specific topic.

I also like that my job entails interacting with people from different backgrounds. IT and supply chain are truly global industries.

Where do you see yourself within Radial in the next few years/ what are your goals?
My overall goal is to continue supporting the growth of the business and sustain the needs of our clients by developing new technology solutions.

What is your favorite non-work specific thing about your job? (i.e., breakroom games, onsite activities, awards, colleagues, etc.)
Since working remotely I haven’t had an opportunity to participate in in-person events yet, but I’m excited to attend holiday picnics and team sporting events (soccer and/or volleyball tournaments) in the future.

What is one word you would use to describe working at Radial?
Fast-paced.

What is the best career lesson you have learned so far?
The best career lesson I’ve learned so far is to be resilient, patient and collaborate with others. Collaboration is key because in this job, you often need to interact with peers in other departments to complete a project successfully.

What is a fun fact that most people don’t know about you?
I was a student athlete at Long Island University and a co-captain of our soccer team my senior year. I also speak French fluently and lived in France before moving to the U.S.

Another fun fact: I love music and used to be a DJ. I enjoy international music from West Africa (where I’m from), South America and all around the world.

What do you like to do in your free time?
My free time is dedicated to my family. We love to play sports together and I will often travel to watch my kids play soccer and basketball.

What is one thing you can’t live without?
The New York Knicks basketball team.
